Ieder kind mag zich thuis voelen in je klas. Iedereen is uniek en heeft evenveel recht om erbij te horen. Respect tonen voor anderen is een gewoonte die je best al van jongs af aanleert. En jij kan daar als leerkracht mee voor zorgen met de volgende 3 tips.
Door zelf het goede voorbeeld te geven, maak je al een groot verschil. Sta daarom bewust stil bij je eigen ideeën en aannames, zoals:
En probeer daarbij stereotypen te doorbreken. Dit kan je helpen om te beïnvloeden hoe kinderen zichzelf en elkaar bekijken en behandelen.
Jij kan als leerkracht het zelfbeeld én het diverse wereldbeeld van jonge kinderen versterken. Zorg dat ze zichzelf herkennen, maar geef hen ook een blik op hoe anderen (kunnen) zijn. Zo geef je hen waardevolle bagage mee voor hun latere leven.

Toon en bespreek vriendschappen tussen kinderen met verschillende achtergronden. Zo stimuleer je de positieve houding van kinderen tegenover personen met verschillende achtergronden.
Het is al een belangrijke stap om diversiteit te tonen. Maar ga zeker ook in gesprek over diversiteit, verschillen en (on)eerlijkheid. Dat helpt om een sterk zelfbeeld en een open wereldbeeld op te bouwen. Prentenboeken kunnen daarbij een handig hulpmiddel zijn.
